New Orleans, LA, USA - Pittcon 2008

Swamps
If you go to New Orleans "The big easy" you will find lizards everywhere. But do NOT tease them since...
... its brother might be close-by. Although it was 1st of March and the alligators were supposed to hibernate...
... we so about a dozen of them as it was a warm day in the swamps.
Our boat driver had a one year old alligator on the boat and everybody could hold it. It was his guarantee you seen an alligator on the tour.
As you imagine the swamps to be.
Pittcon
That´s why we came to New Orleans. The Pittcon Conference 2008 hosted in the Conventional Centre.

The exhibition ...and we (Eva, Katrin and Stefan) preparing the presentations we made during the conference.

For lunch we went to several places nearby the centre. Here we are waiting in the line in front of the famous "Mother´s" on Poydras and Tchoupitoulas. French Quarter at night
Canal Street on a Friday night.
New Orleans: the town where you are jazzed.
A walk in the evening or during night through the French Quarter is beautiful. Here the rear side of the St. Louis Cathedral at Jackson Square.
Because we were on tour for almost 24 hours we were quite hungry and therefor we went into a restaurant to test the food New Orleans is know for so well: seafood. (Torsten, Eva, Stefan, Magda)
Bourbon Street. That´s the nightlife district. Bars, clubs, table dance, karaoke, and alcohol on the streets. Advertisement!
One night in a bar on Bourbone. I do not remember all of the guys. (Sascha, Coi, Torsten, ???)
Sasha and me in another club dancing till 3.30 a.m. Coi was also with us! That was fun.

Seafood at Redfish Restaurant on Bourbon. Delicious!!
The Cats Meow turned out to be the best. It is a karaoke bar and we...
... tried our best: "Son of a preacher man", Dusty Springfield!
French Quarter
One morning I went to the Mississippi around 6.20. I suffered from the jet lack and therefore I could not sleep anymore. Getting up so early should pay off.

One evening I made a tour through the French Quarter I had not been to before. It´s worth it to walk a bit more to the north east. Have a look!
The balconies are designed more individually.
Old meets new. In the front the St Louis Cathedral and in the rear the high-risers of New Orleans.
Bourbon Street around 6 p.m.
Beside the French Quarter
The skyline seen from the junction between River Walk and conventional centre.
While walking around in New Orleans you will walk on dedicated pavers. Here for soldiers of WW II.Beside the French Quarter and the high-rising buildings you also find neglected areas like here Poe Drive.
The drive-up to the Pontchartrain Expressway seen from below and ...
... seen from above (Taken from Google Earth).
The skyline seen from Lee Circle. And here from the eastern ferry terminal with me and...as a panorama.
