Greece - Crete and Athens

The last Nano2Life conference was held in Heraklion on Crete. After that, I attended the Nano2Life Summer School in Athens. Here are some pictures of my time in Greece!
Nano2Life is also known for it´s very good social events during conferences. This time we listened to folk music played on very old instruments from all over the world.
Preparing to go to Spinalonga. Unfortunately I left my camera in the hotel room.
This night we stayed awake till sunrise. First we sat at the pool...
... later on the beach.
We also went swimming when the sun rose up the sky.
In the water...
... the others seen from the water. Hildegard, Dieter and Nicole.
The pool at daylight.
And the hotel itself.
As Katrin did not like the smell of ouzo (Ouzo Plomari :-) ) I also had to close my nose.
After the week in Heraklion, Crete I attended the 2008 N2L Summer School in Athens. This is the first morning when we met at Katehaki station.
On the way back from Dimokritos University.
Our first tour through the city. Nergiz and Bergoi.
Syntagma Square in the evening.
Temple of Olympian Zeus.
In front of Aktopolis on Aeropagus.
Sunset seen from Aeropagus.
Picknick close to the monument of Philopappus.
And looking south-west from there.
Somewhere in the streets below Akropolis.
Looking from Akropolis to Lykavitos hill.
On the slope to Philopapos. The Akropolis.
Athens, the Akropolis and Lykavitos hill.
Looking to Piraeus from Philopappus.
The same view ten minutes later.
Cactus on Philopappos.
Looking to Priaeus.The Akropolis...
and again.

In the streets below the Akropolis.
One day we went on excursion with the Summer School. This is the ancient channel of Corinthos.
Here we visited the Lion Gate of Mykenes.
Snapshot.
Here in Mykenes was almost no shade at all.
A cicada.
Waiting infront of Clytemnestra´s tomb looking for shade.
One stop was the theatre of Epidavros.
The explanations of the tour guide were kind of boring, but...
... the view was great, isn´t it Nergiz?
Flowers.
Indu and a greek.
Moonrise over Athens.
Shortly before sunrise. The Akropolis seen from the roof of my hotel.
And during the day.

Again in the streets of the neighborhood below the Akropolis.
Looking to the Akropolis.
The Erecteion.
The Akropolis.
Close to the Olympic stadium.
The Olympic Stadium in Athens.
One day I made another tour through the city.

Statues close to ...
... the University of Athens.
The train station in Piraeus. It´s not worth going there!!!
Me in the jacuzzi tub in front of the Akropolis.
Sunset over Athens.
The moon.
Our roof and the Akropolis without..
... and with me!
As the first picknick was so beautiful we went on Mt Lykavitos another evening. Here I am looking north,
here to the west.
Sunset seen from the top of the hill.
Looking to the Akropolis. If you go down the hill just stay on the way. I tried to leave it for a better position for a picture and everything was fine until I had contact...
with the cacti next to the bench. The were everywhere. The problem is they have very small needles sticking to your clothes, penetrating it and also your skin. With little barbed hooks they stay there and it is hard to remove them. I had to cut my pants and to throw away my shirt.
But finally I got a nice shot.
Awaiting the sunset.
We had so much food with us. Delicious. And the wine also.
The Akropolis after sunset.
Cactus with moon.
Today we went on another excursion. First we visited Cap Sounion...
... with it´s monument and the...
... and the shore. Later we went to Palea Fokea for swimming and dinner.
